Born and raised in Vernal, Utah, a career in the oil and gas industry was almost a given for him. Kyle began his welding and oilfield journey the Monday after graduating high school, taking a welder’s helper position at a refinery in Commerce City, Colorado.

From there, he accepted a more local role at a service company, working his way up from roustabout laborer to foreman—building tank batteries for two years.

As his family grew, so did his financial responsibilities. Determined to advance his skills, he learned the welding trade by helping welders on location, practicing during lunch breaks, and taking night classes at a local technical college. In 2006, he passed his first 6G pipe test and began welding on tank batteries. He continued down that path, eventually buying his own truck and following the workload to Greeley, Colorado, in late 2013.

2014 brought major changes and opportunities. In June, he took the leap into full-time business ownership, with nineteen employees joining him on day one. Before the pandemic, the team had grown to over 100 employees, and they are steadily heading back toward that number today.

It’s been a wild and rewarding journey, filled with both highs and lows along the way. He likes to say he’s earned an informal business degree from the “school of hard knocks,” and under his leadership, BWI is thriving. He is fortunate to have assembled an incredible team who fill in the gaps in areas that are not his forte—and the future looks brighter every day for both the team and BWI as a whole.
