Brandon Hernandez

Quality Manager & Safety Coordinator

Brandon Hernandez comes to BWI with a plethora of experience from the quality, safety, and construction operations space. He prides himself as being a Quality driven, punctual contractor propelled by extensive mechanical and structural inspection realized through the construction of nuclear and chemical facilities, oil and gas facilities and bridge constructs. He understands that quality and safety are hand-in-hand in the proper development of any construction site. Inspection and testing are his focus supported by over a decade of specific training gained through multiple, code diverse projects.

Safety is his mission.

Brandon started his quality journey in the chemical and nuclear industry, leading crews of test technicians in the field across the nation. Working closely with the US DoD, Army Corp. of Engineers, and contractors in the Chemical Demilitarization campaigns across the country.

After taking a year off in his early twenties to be a self-proclaimed “ski bum”, Brandon returned to the industry once again to assist in the construction, inspection, and testing of major chemical processing equipment, some in the ChemDemil areas but primarily in the precious metal mining sector. This is where his love for metallurgy and the mechanics of metals took shape, fused in if you will.

Brandon’s career began to take shape from the fabrication and testing areas to the inspection and compliance disciplines. His passion for the work he was doing helped him to obtain his ASNT Level II certifications in multiple NDE techniques. During this time, he began to understand the bond between quality and safety. The safety factors built into a nuclear or chemical facility are the epicenter of compliance. From here his desire to help the community with integrity through quality was birthed.

Unfortunately, government budgets in the Department of Energy were lessened and he succumbed to a major layoff.

Brandon took the road of higher education at this point and was determined to be better on the other side of things. He enrolled in Aims Community College and completed his Associates degree with Honors, while also working full time at a bridge factory where he began diving into the world of coatings inspections.

Brandon entered the Oil and Gas industry after the completion of his time at Aims and continued further to Colorado State University. His passion to help people be the best they can be drove his major of Organizational Leadership. During his first exposure to O&G he was gifted an opportunity to obtain his AWS CWI, and further ICC IBC training and certifications. This led to his robust understanding of building Codes and how they apply to the construction of Factory-Built Non-Residential structures. Not long after he was recognized by the Colorado DOLA/DoH as a Quality Officer for his employer.

After obtaining these credentials he returned to the nuclear industry to explore where he could help. During this tenure he worked on multiple nuclear waste containment and disposal projects for the like of Los Alamos National Laboratory, Bechtel International (again), and the US Dept. of Energy. Brandon journeyed through the Positive Material Identification sector of testing obtaining certification for Optical Emissions Spectrometry and X-Ray Fluorescent testing methods. As interesting the indulgence of the nuclear scene is for an inspector, he couldn’t resist helping a friend when he was approached with an opportunity to assist with a start up O&G equipment manufacturing company.

With this opportunity, Brandon used his nuclear background to develop a quality and safety program that didn’t just meet O&G practices but exceed them. He was soon found in a Director of Operations position and responsible for dozens of simultaneous projects across multiple facilities with 80+ employees under his direction.

Brandon joins the BWI team with the critical compliance attitude required to polish the stellar Bentley reputation and the entrepreneurial mindset to fulfill the visions of the ownership.

Brandon enjoys hanging with his wife, children, and pets. Baseball, volleyball, basketball, and rugby are amongst his favorite pastimes.

Brandon acknowledges that his credentials and abilities are, but a gift trusted to him by Jesus Christ.
